RUTGERS/PENN ST UNDER 53
Top-shelf quarterbacks have given Rutgers fits. That bodes well for Christian Hackenberg. Nonetheless, we favor Rutgers. Last year Rutgers started seven different players at cornerback and was the only team in the country to start two true freshmen at cornerback in the same game. On offense, the current edition of the Scarlet Knights is a veteran crew. QB Gary Nova operates behind an OL with five returning starters. RB Paul James, frisky again after being injured for much of last year, and WR Leonte Carroo are prime-time players. Penn State was a deserving winner over Central Florida in the opener, but had trouble moving the ball downstairs, an issue again last week. That’s not surprising as last year’s OL stalwarts, John Urschel and Garry Gilliam, graduated to the NFL. Kyle Flood has been up and down during his brief tenure in New Brunswick, but the Scarlet Knights are 9-1 SU in August and September games under Flood’s tutelage. This is the first-ever Big Ten game for Rutgers and Flood will have his troops very well-prepared.
Penn St is 5-2 on the under when they are favorite 3-10 points. Rutgers is 10-3 on the under when playing with 6 days or less rest. Rutgers is dealing with some injuries to their wide receivers, and I expect them to maneuver the ball on the ground.
According to my analysis, I have Rutgers winning 24-17. Lay the money on the 53 under for today’s winner.
